Baby Blog: December 27, 2009

Scroll down to December 23, 2009 for a Hidden Baby Blog about finding out the gender of Baby BOY Hubbart! We have finally told our family and closest friends, so now the information can go public. :)

Landon and I had big plans for revealing the gender of Baby Boy Hubbart to our families on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but the blizzard had other plans for us. So, there was nothing extra exciting about how we told our families the big news. But, everyone was so excited to finally know whether Baby Hubbart is a "he" or a "she." Everything seems a little bit more real now...

Reason For The Season

We just attended our church's Christmas Eve service (on Christmas Eve Eve), and left with such a feeling of gratefulness for our Savior. We just wanted to remind everyone (and ourselves) to make sure and take time to remember the deep meaning to the Christmas season.

Merry Christmas to you!

Hidden Baby Blog: December 23, 2009

Wow, I didn't think I would be writing another Hidden Baby Blog! We had our appointment with Dr. K yesterday and everything went well! Except for the moment he told us we would have to wait until 22 weeks for the anatomy ultrasound! 5 weeks! AHHH! While we know it is best to wait to do the ultrasound later, it is still hard to wait to know whether Baby Hubbart is a boy or a girl (but we would rather know that all it's organs are forming, than know whether it is a boy or a girl...therefore we would wait with smiles on our face). :)

BUT, our friends Hank and Marie (and baby in the belly Addie) stopped by last night, and she mentioned that she thought we could have an ultrasound done at an outside ultrasound facility, as long as we had our doctors permission. Sure enough, I looked into a few and they have "sneak peaks" so that you can see progress and know the gender before a late ultrasound! And, even better, the one close to our house uses the same sonographer as Dr. K! Perfect. We called this morning and they had a cancellation, so we booked our "sneak peak" for 2:00pm.

Guess what Baby Hubbart is... A BOY!

Landon and I both knew the minute that she put the screen up. Baby Boy was not shy and showed us his stuff immediately. And he was SO ACTIVE! I mean all.over.the.place. Except for our favorite moment when he laid out on the amniotic sac with his knees up in the air...and started sucking his thumb. I cried...and I keep crying thinking about it. It was the cutest little moment.

To back track a little bit, I KNEW Baby Hubbart was Baby BOY Hubbart from day one when I first took the pregnancy test. I just knew it. And I would have felt like a bad mom already had it been a girl... :) Landon has wavered between girl and boy throughout the 3 months, but he mostly thought it was a boy as well.

This is a Hidden Baby Blog because no one knows that we had the ultrasound done today, and we aren't telling until our Christmas celebrations with each family. So, we aren't making this public until Sunday night. Keep your eyes out for a blog on telling our family!

And yes, Baby Boy has a name! But, we won't be telling until he is born...so he will just be Baby Boy until then. Sorry to make you all wait!

Baby Blog: December 21, 2009

EDIT: The poll is now fixed! Sorry friends!

Since we are now well into our 16th week, I thought I would post a poll for Baby Hubbart's gender. What do you think...Boy or Girl? Make your guess in the poll on the right side of the blog. We should be finding out really soon...

Baby Blog: December 20, 2009

All continues to be well at the Hubbarts. Below is the newest belly pictures...taken at 16w 1d. I'll stop torturing everyone with my bare belly pictures now that I am showing enough to be seen through clothes. :)

So, I never imagined the "clothes emergency" that I would encounter in this in-between stage of pregnancy. All of my clothes still fit, but my shirts are starting to get a little bit shorter...and it drives me nuts. Maybe to the point of my first pregnancy breakdown. :) I've bought some maternity shirts, but they are still huge. I guess I'm going to just buy a few longer shirts to hold me over for a few weeks until I'm a bit bigger.

Big News: baby is kicking! I started feeling it last week... Yes, that would make me in week 15 still. No one really believes me, but I am 100% sure. :) I thought I was crazy for a few days and didn't even mention anything to Landon! No gas, hunger pains, heartbeat of my own...definitely the baby kicking.

We have our next appointment with Dr. K on Tuesday. We are super excited to hear baby's heartbeat, and we are hoping Dr. takes a peek at baby with the ultrasound machine. We'll see! I did listen to the heartbeat at work last week in some downtime...the sound is so amazing!

Last but definitely not least, my super cute 6 year-old cousin Kelsey made a really funny comment to my mom, and I must make sure it is documented forever. You have to know Miss Kelsey to fully appreciate this comment. Mom asked Kelsey if she was excited to have a new cousin... Kelsey responded by asking who was having a baby... Mom said that Jen and Landon were having a baby... Kelsey responded that "everyone is telling her that, but it doesn't look like there is a baby in Jen's belly, so she doesn't believe it." Ha! She is a riot.

Baby Blog: December 14, 2009

Now that we have entered the second trimester (YAY), we thought we would write a little post to remember the first trimester...

Foods I Loved (or actually could eat):
-Sherbet Ice Cream
-Applesauce
-Bagels
-Fruit Smoothies (milk, apple juice, and strawberries)
-Baked Potato Soup
-Yogurt
-Crackers
-Sliced Pears

Random Things (for us to remember or you to know):
-We signed up for pregnancy updates on a few websites (we did The Bump, What To Expect, and BabyCenter)...there were lots of emails, but we LOVED getting these daily/weekly
-Ask for Zofran Melties when the sickness really sets in...goodbye nausea
-We loved our wait before we told our big news...we know that it is not for everyone, but we enjoyed the time of prayer and excitement and just getting used to the idea that we were PREGNANT
-Hidden Baby Blogs are something we will cherish...we will eventually make all of this into a scrapbook
-Not that this would make a difference in the OB we chose, but we are so glad that we had an ultrasound at every appointment in the first trimester
-So, so grateful for my sweet husband who served me and took care of me
-Baths were one of the few times I felt relief from nausea...LOVE the huge bathtub!
-Make sure and take Prenatal Vitamins after a meal...they made me feel horrible if I didn't
-Slow walks helped with my nausea...there were days that we walked multiple times just to help settle the nausea
-Landon used DVR more than ever... :) I went to bed so early that he had plenty of time of catch up on sports

That's all I can really think of for now...

Christmas Decorations!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! Yay for Christmas! Landon and I are slowly collecting Christmas decorations for our new home, and we are happy with how everything is looking so far. But, we still have a long way to go. The decorations look kind of blah in pictures, but we think they are festive and homey in real life.

Our front door with our red berry wreath.

The cabinet in our entry way with a couple of decorations.

The mini Nativity set that I LOVE.
A vase full of sparkly ornaments and another berry wreath.
Our Christmas tree! It looks so sad in this picture, but we think it looks good in real life. We had a 6 foot tree until about a week ago, but we were then given this 7.5 foot tree. It looks so much more proportional to our living room and ceiling height! We need to buy more ornaments and a tree topper, but I think it will look really good next year!
Our dining room table decorations. The trees look like mercury glass balls. I.love.them.
The cutest thing of all...a kitchen towel that my sweet grandma embroidered. Isn't it cute!?

We are so excited to celebrate this holiday season with our family and friends! Our next week is already full of holiday parties and fun winter activities, and it only gets busier from here. We hope everyone enjoys this wonderful season!!!

Baby Blog: December 3, 2009

Landon and I have truly been overwhelmed with all the love and support we have received in the past week! We are so grateful to all of you who have gone out of your way to say congratulations, or give us a hug, or call or text or email...the list goes on. Thank you for being excited with us!!!

Baby has received it's first gifts and we must document them in pictures. The first picture was Baby's absolute first.gift.ever. Sent to us by my aunt, uncle, and cousin, who happen to be the biggest OSU fans ever. That makes them a bit more special. :) Baby might have to wear these home from the hospital...Boomer Sooner! The second gift is from the Hodges family. How cute is that little robe?! I love it. Baby might wear it all the time. :) Landon and I have both gifts out in the living room and we have been oohing and aahing every time we walk by.

Our friends have also been spoiling us... The yummy, huge, delicious, perfect cookie was brought by the Galeys to small group. The Smiths also brought celebratory cookies, but I forgot to take a picture. This cookie was the best thing ever. I actually ate so much of it in a 2 day period that I had my first weight gain of pregnancy. Dr. K will be so happy. The last picture is of our first parenting book from the Cartwrights. Lord knows we need it. :) We love reading together though, so we are really excited for our new subject matter and our new book!

How fun is all of that?! Again, thank you so much for making this special time even more special for us! Baby Hubbart is already SO LOVED...and there is nothing that makes us happier!

Up next on the Hubbart blog is a break from the Baby Blog...Christmas decorations...YAY!

Baby Blog: November 27, 2009

Big news from the Hubbarts...we are expecting Baby Hubbart on June 4th! You can check out our past 13 weeks by starting at the Hidden Baby Blog dated September 21, 2009. We are so excited that the Baby Blogs are no longer Hidden!!! Yay!

We finally shared our secret yesterday, on Thanksgiving! This is the picture Landon took before the end of the table heard the news...

And the picture after the entire table heard the news...

Ha! Can you see the surprised/excited looks on my mommy and sisters faces?!

We shared the news with Landon's family after we shared with my family, and we then began making some friend phone calls. It is such an exciting time for us and we are so grateful for all the support we have already been shown!

Hidden Baby Blog: November 25, 2009

Today is the last day that Baby Hubbart is a secret! We are so excited to tell everyone tomorrow, but also so grateful for our almost 10 weeks of secret. :) It was a time of excitement and prayer for our little family.

Yesterday we had an appointment with Dr. K. Everything looked good and the heartbeat was so strong. Landon keeps imitating it...though I kind of think he sounds more like a beatbox than a heartbeat. :) I didn't even think about this, but Landon had never heard a baby heartbeat before!! We are so, so grateful for this gift, and we can't wait to share our big news with the families tomorrow!!!

Hidden Baby Blog: November 16, 2009

We can't believe we are in week 11!!! AHH! Time was going so slow for awhile, but now it seems to be flying by. I'm slowly beginning to feel better...more energy, less sleep, and less nausea! Yay! Only 10 more days and we get to tell family and friends!!!

Here is the newest belly picture...taken at 11w 2d...

Halloween

Maybe we're a little late, but here is our Halloween post. We woke up early on Saturday and made pancakes...in the shape of jack-o-lanterns. Landon thinks I am ridiculous for making festive pancakes for every holiday, but he is coming to expect them. :)

After breakfast, we carved our jack-o-lantern. Landon picked out an excellent carving pumpkin!

We put our carved pumpkin out on Halloween night for the trick-or-treaters. Landon wouldn't pose by himself with the pumpkin...imagine that. :)

Although we had a wonderful Halloween, our evening was so sad. We had NO trick-or-treaters!! None. We live in a new neighborhood where there are more houses being built than actually built, but still! I was so, so, so sad. I at least expected a few kids. Landon tried to make the situation comical by sneaking out the backdoor and ringing the doorbell...making me think we had a trick-or-treater. I was so excited to hear the doorbell ring, but so sad that it wasn't a real kiddo. Thanks for trying dearest. :)

Anyway, we hope everyone had a fun Halloween!

Hidden Baby Blog: November 12, 2009

I can't believe we are almost 11 weeks pregnant! Time flies...especially now that I'm feeling a little better!

Here is a belly picture at 10w 2d. Landon and I both think I am showing just a little bit, but not enough for anyone to notice. :)

We are planning on making our big announcement on Thanksgiving, so we have to wait 2 more weeks to tell!! AHH! We have held it in this long though, so I'm sure we can make it. We can't imagine being more thankful right now, so Thanksgiving seems like the perfect time to make our announcement. We will be 12w 6d on Thanksgiving.

Hidden Baby Blog: October 30, 2009

We had another OB appointment yesterday... and we got to see Baby Hubb again on ultrasound. I thought we were only going in for a regular OB visit, but he did an ultrasound too! We were so excited! Baby Hubb looked perfect and is growing fast! Last time all we could see was the fetal pole and yolk sac, but this time we could actually see the little bean and make out the little arms and legs... and they were moving!! AHHH!

More pictures of Baby Hubb...

Second Anniversary!

Our second anniversary was last Tuesday! We had so much fun celebrating!! We both took the day off of work, and just spent time enjoying each other and a sunny day!

It was a perfect day for a trip to the pumpkin patch and corn maze. We went to the Orr Family Farm since it was open on a Tuesday during the day. There might have been 500 early elementary kids there for field trips...ha! None of the kids were allowed in the corn maze though, so we had it all to ourselves. They had it set up with games/activities to do inside the maze, so we wandered through the maze and completed everything in about 2 hours. The guys working there said we actually did pretty well!

That evening, we went to dinner and rented a movie. It was a perfect way to spend our second anniversary!

Hidden Baby Blog: October 26, 2009

What a difference 10 days makes... "Morning sickness" has really hit with full force. I am nauseated and queasy all day long. I call my current state survival mode. :) I've lost 7 pounds people... 7 pounds. And I didn't have 7 pounds to lose. Hopefully this madness will stop soon. But, until then, you can find me curled in up in my bed in the fetal position...and probably begging for some Zofran melties.

Note: We are grateful for Baby Hubb and will take this sickness and be happy about it. :)

Sorry

Sorry for going over a month without posting! Pa and Claudia have asked us to post again, and Erica has been concerned about us and our lack of posting. :) All is well actually. I tried to post about 3 weeks ago about a camping trip we took with friends, but blogger erased all my pictures, and in my angst I have been ignoring our blog.

We have had a busy month! In addition to our normal weekly activities, we have had many wedding showers to attend, and birthdays, and the camping trip, and my annual continuing education conference...AND OUR 2ND ANNIVERSARY!!!!

In case I have never mentioned this before...I am so grateful for my wonderful husband! What a blessing these last 2 years have been. Marrying Landon was definitely the best decision I have ever made!!! More on our anniversary celebration later.

Check back sometime soon. Hopefully blogger will be compliant and I can post some pictures soon!!

Hidden Baby Blog: October 16, 2009

So, I'm over week late writing this post, but we got to see Baby Hubbart last Thursday. Dr. K did an ultrasound and everything looked great! Baby Hubb was measuring at 5w 6d, which puts the new updated due date at June 4, 2010. Today, I am 7 weeks pregnant! We are so excited and so grateful that things have gone well so far. Baby Hubb looked like a little speck on the ultrasound screen, but we did see the little flickering heartbeat and we got our first ultrasound picture. :) We scanned the pictures they gave us, so they aren't exaclty clear. Here are baby's first pictures...

Landon took a picture of me and Baby Hubb, and I wish I would have taken one of him and Baby Hubb.

Landon wins the award for the most wonderful husband ever! He has been spoiling me and taking care of me. That is when I'm actually awake. :) I have never been so tired in my life. It's possible that I sleep almost as much as I'm awake, which means that my house and our entire life is being taken care of completely by hubby.

Nausea/queasiness is also setting in... Landon and I have noticed that taking a long walk helps with the nausea/queasiness. Our neighbors probably think we are crazy as we have pretty much been out walking rain or shine. We try to walk at least 1 1/2 miles a day, which makes me feel better and makes us both feel like we are doing something good for Baby. :) I know that so far I'm lucky, as most people have "morning sickness" much worse!

We love you little Baby Hubb!

Hidden Baby Blog: October 4, 2009

Happy 6 Week Birthday in my belly! We love you little Hubb! Our email updates are saying that you are the size of a lentil bean or a sweet pea this week...a big change from the poppy seed you were in the beginning. :) We are so excited to see you on Thursday...we will see your growth and your little heartbeat. We are praying that you are growing on schedule and that your heartbeat is strong. We already love you so much!

One thing I'm not loving...being so tired I can barely function! I.am.exhausted. But, it's for a good cause, so we'll manage! Landon is spoiling me, and taking care of so many little things around the house that I would usually do. I am so grateful for my wonderful husband, who amazes me everyday with his servant attitude and love for Christ and me. :) He's going to be such a good daddy!

Hidden Baby Blog: September 24, 2009

All is well in Baby Hubb land! We had lab work drawn on Tuesday morning and just got our results back yesterday afternoon. They drew a beta Hcg and progesterone. My beta Hcg looked normal, but my progesterone was a little low. Luckily, low progesterone is an easy fix! Well, relatively easy. :) I had the choice of either daily suppositories (no way) or a weekly IM injections...both done until we are 12 weeks pregnant. I don't mind getting a weekly shot, but Landon isn't loving it so much! He hates needles, and he is the one adminstering the shot. Hahaha!

Picture of "Murse" Landon giving me my weekly shot. :)
Also, they scheduled our first appointment for October 8 at 10am. First we have an ultrasound, then we have an appointment with Dr. K. We should be between 6 and 7 weeks pregnant at the appointment. Can't wait to see itty, bitty Baby Hubb. Yay!!!

Hidden Baby Blog: September 21, 2009

Yep, we're pregnant!!! We are kind of surprised and so, so excited!!!!!!!!!!! Right now, we are 4 weeks pregnant. According to due date calculators, Baby Hubbart is due on May 30, 2010. Everybody mark your calendars. :)

Yes, I took 5 pregancy tests. I won't bore (or gross you out) with all the details, but finding out we were pregnant was random and funny. We went to a get together at our friends house to celebrate their baby-in-the-belly Addie. On our way home, I started feeling a little nauseated. Hmmm. I took the pregnancy test and thought it was a positive result, but had already thrown away the box and didn't know whether the positive result was a line or a plus sign. Haha. The next tests were varying iffy and negative results....I took the last test after waiting a while and it was an obvious positive. Definitely pregnant!

Landon's a Dad! He has been so excited and supportive! He is really amazed by the fact that Baby is only the size of a poppyseed.

The first belly pic. We thought we would take a picture of my belly when it was still small and skinny. Things will be changing fast! On a random note, I keep having the taste of metal in my mouth...gross.

Baby Lucy already looks nervous about her new sibling. Landon is super excited that his childhood dog will get to meet Baby Hubbart!

We can't wait to share the next 252 days with you!! Yay Baby Hubbart!!!

Restaurant Review: Mamasitas

Last week, Landon and I tried our first gift certificate at Mamasitas. It was a rainy day and we were both in the mood for some queso! For those unfamiliar with Mamasitas, it is located just west of Western on 63rd. I've driven by it a million times, and I've always wanted to go there, but never have.

We really enjoyed our meal. We ordered queso for an appetizer, and our entrees were fajitas (pork for Landon, chicken for me). All of our food was really good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. But, it wasn't quite as tasty as Ted's or Poblano, so I'm not sure we'll go back unless we use another gift certificate!

I'm not sure when we'll have time to use our next gift certificate, but we are excited to try more new restaurants!

Game Day

My Dad invited us to the OU-Idaho State football game on Saturday. And this was the radar on my little Blackberry. Lots of storms...all night.

By the time we walked from our car to the tailgate, we were soaking wet. But the yummy food made it all better. Can you tell by the food-in-the-cheeks smile that Landon gave me?!

Once we got to the game we found a stadium full of poncho-wearing crazy Sooner fans! You can't tell in this picture, but it was pouring! And it rained the whole game!!!

The men in my life didn't seem to mind that is was raining. Not at all. :) I was living it up in my little poncho tent at this time...warm and day. In this picture is Landon, David (Dad's company's client from Australia), and Dad.

See, I told you Landon didn't mind. He looked quite happy to be at the rainy game.

At half-time we had to give our poncho's a little break. They were getting heavy from all the pooling rain. Dad looking cute and sumo-wrestler-ish in his OU poncho.

Landon looking very cute and VERY sumo-wrestler-ish in his poncho.

And here I am, just trying to survive the game and have fun. :) And it worked.
And the Sooners won! The score was a whole lot to zero!!! Boomer Sooner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dad, thank you so much for taking us to the game and to Old Chicago after. We had such a fun night! And, what a great memory. :)

Restaurant Review

So, Landon and I bought gift certificates for seven different area restaurants for a really good deal. We've been to some of them, but not others. We are ridiculously excited for our little restaurant adventure!!

The seven restaurants:
1. Cafe Pranzo
2. Galileos
3. 1492
4. Mamasitas
5. Chicas
6. Deep Deuce
7. Dan O'Briens

Pretty much, we can both eat whatever we want, and we will pay $11 total. We got $25 gift certificates to each restaurant... and we only paid $1 for each gift certificate. There is a minimum restaurant order of $35, which includes food, non-alcoholic drinks, and gratuity. Hence the $11 total. Hope that makes sense...

We'll do a review of the restaurants as we use the gift certificates!

Nines

Since today is 09.09.09, we thought a random list of nines was in order for the day.
  1. We both love rain, thunderstorms, snow, etc. We can sit and watch Gary England (and listen to Val Castor) for hours.
  2. Boomer Sooner. We are so sad about the game last Saturday.
  3. On that note, how can PPV charge $40 for a football game. And a crappy one at that. OU vs Idaho State for $40. Even these devoted Sooner fans will trade the TV for the radio for this game.
  4. Even though his hair is buzzed, Landon gets really bad bedhead in the mornings. It cracks me up in the mornings.
  5. Landon says that when I say "I love you," it sounds like "I nove nou." He makes fun of me for this every single day. :)
  6. Everyday, we talk about how grateful we are for our new home. It is seriously perfect for us. One thing we love is driving by horses, cows, ponds, etc on our way home. We live so close to the city, but those last couple of miles feel like country.
  7. We feel like we took the vacation of a lifetime when we went to Alaska.
  8. Babydog Lucy is going through some "behavior modification" right now. She tries to lick everything, and I think it is disgusting. Landon might think I am overreacting.
  9. Neither of us really like the number 9. Landon's favorite number is 7, and Jen's favorite number is 13.

Boomer Sooner!

Guess what time of year it is... Football season!!! We are so excited for the start of the college football season tonight and for the Sooner's first game on Saturday. Make sure and wear your Crimson this weekend!

We will leave you with a little song...

Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, OK U! I was Sooner born and Sooner bred and when I die I'm Sooner dead! Rah Oklahoma, Rah Oklahoma, Rah Oklahoma, OK U!

And another...

O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A--our chant rolls on and on! Thousands strong join heart and song in alma mater's praise: of campus beautiful by day and night, of colors proudly gleaming red and white 'neath a western sky. OU's chant will never die. Live on University!

Zoo

We went to the zoo with the Small family on Saturday. It's been at least 10 years since either of us had been, and we had so much fun. The weather was perfect, and the girls were really cute to watch.

Here is a picture of Landon and the giraffes. We learned that giraffes have high blood pressure. Interesting fact!
Jen and the Small family watching the giant tortoise. No one believes me, but I saw a tortoise about this size crawling across the road by our house. Believe me, it really happened. Sweet Jasmine watching the bear feeding.
Savanna loved the camera. She kept smiling everytime we go the camera out. So cute.

Landon and I were totally oddballs for not having children or a stroller. :) I think we saw one other couple that were there without kids. It was definitely a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday though!
